I stayed up late last night considering writing about Joe but I just couldn’t do it without becoming depressed. I knew you’d write about him. He was/is my hero. I think he’s the only musician who stayed true to himself, didn’t “sellout” in artistic terms and never changed his personality. I miss him. I played mescaleros, his solo stuff and clash song while my wife slept. thanks for this.

My wife laughed at me for thinking I was “besties” with Joe, but he really was the first person to ever let me know that I was perfectly OK in just being me. As long as I made sure to make me a better version of me every day.
