Brilliant!

“Dude those lyrics, are like, man, they’re like genius!”

And that’s what we’re about today, on our very second-to last installment of Twisted Mix-Tape Tuesday before sabbatical.

Now, I could literally run with this theme, five songs a day, for the next several years. But I won’t. And I also didn’t inflict any undue mental exhaustion by trying to choose the “best of the bunch” either.

No, what follows instead are the lyrical giants for me that deal with topics quirky, topics not normally brought to light in polite society. And to that end, I suppose we’d have to start with the grand daddy of them all…

Followed by a little gender identification sing-a-long…

Before we see if anyone would care for another dose?

Because we all know that we sometimes just don’t fit in…

Until of course, someone loves us true.

And for today’s bonus track, well, I’m hoping that at least some of you will have seen this one coming. I mean, the week’s prompt was about “genius lyrics,” after all…

You Suck.

You suck at life…

You suck in your marriage…

You suck at fulfilling your potential…

You suck in love…

Hell, you even suck at limiting this post to just 5 songs…

You suck.

Please visit Jen’s Twisted Mix-Tape Tuesday for more songs about sucking.

PS: Should you listen to only (1) this week, go with track number #6, as it is damned near the “You Suck” anthem of all time. But also try to give picks 1 through 5 a audio peek as well. I mean, hell, this IS a mix tape, right?

Endless Summer Of The Damned

The very moment I saw today’s Friday Fictioneers prompt picture, I was instantly reminded of one of my favorite albums from one of my favorite bands – “Swing The Heartache” by Bauhaus (to those of you not already “in the know'” click on the album title above in order to find out why).

As a result, I decided to do something Fictioneerary that I hadn’t done since around the time I was in the 8th grade, and I created a post using as many Bauhaus song titles as possible. These are italicized for your reference, and including the post title and accompanying song prompt, I was able to squeak 19 of them into today’s submission. As always, I hope you enjoy.

“Oh Harry, I’ll never make it. There’s no hope.”

“Yes you will, we need to catch up with the boys. It’s all we ever wanted, let’s move on.

“No, I’ll just stay here in this dive, m’dear.”

“No mother, you can’t. Remember, Satori’s directly behind us. It’s only a matter of time before he overcomes us with his poison pen.”

“But darling, I’ve no adrenalin, I feel like a muscle in plastic. I simply can’t move through these crowds.”

“You HAVE TO. It’s almost night time. We won’t be safe unless we’re in the flat field by then.”

“But… I don’t want to be safe anymore. Kingdom’s coming, and I’d rather be an exquisite corpse, than continue to live in fear of fear.”

Burning from the inside, her sudden assertion hit me like a kick in the eye.

Side note: if you could, please visit my post from yesterday, as it pertains to a cause I feel very strongly about, and any support you could provide would be deeply appreciated. Now, here’s Peter, Daniel, Kevin and David – the unwitting baby daddies to Gothic rock, doing what they did best:

Of Lillies & Remains

When the message first came over, I assumed that he was going to ask for a copy of “Sap…” in addition to the “Old Punk” I had already dropboxed him. Honestly, even after all my whining and pining, it never once occurred to me that Lance was actually reaching out in order to have me select this weeks 100 Word Song (!!!!!!!)

I hope that you will once again consider my invitation to jump in with the 100 Word fun – if nothing else, it will someday provide you with the same opportunity to post your favorite Bauhaus song…

=)

A continuation from the past two weeks, here’s my 100. Enjoy!

A flicker of an eyelid was how long ago it happened, and how long it took.

I opened my eyes slowly, to make sure that they wouldn’t fall out when I did. Fearful of making movements too quickly, I next drew my tongue across my teeth. Odd, they felt cleaner than they should have. Funny how your mind distracts you with idiocy right when your world is exploding in your face.

Peripherally I glanced over at her, to see thick red life oozing from her mouth. The air smelled a hint of lilies. I whispered “Kathy…?” There was no answer.
